Mask Study

Mask Study
9x12
Acrylic on Panel

I recently went to New Orleans for the first time and loved it! Of course I had to buy a mask! This is the first still life I've done in awhile. Its great practice and was really enjoyable. I plan on doing a series based on this trip to New Orleans. There are a couple of pictures below of my set up and a process shot.

Marina Beach

                                              Marina Beach
8x10
Acrylic on Panel

This painting was inspired by an auto rickshaw drive through Marina Beach in Chennai, India. Cows roam freely on the beach and on the roads. We came across this concession stand that appeared to be glowing. Part of the auto rickshaw is shown in the left hand corner.

Mixed media on watercolor post card

I recently broke my toe, so right now it's difficult to get upstairs and work in my studio. I've been experimenting with these watercolor post cards in mixed media. I'm having fun and I'm looking forward to doing more while I recuperate!

Madonna And Child

  Madonna And Child
24"x39"
Acrylic on panel

I just completed this painting inspired by a shrine I saw in Chennai, India. It's the first large painting I've done in a long time, and somehow, for the most part, painted itself. I love it when that happens! I think it's interesting that Madonna is wearing a sari and Indian jewelry, while holding a rosary. There are so many beautiful temples and shrines in India, but this one I found striking, because of the contrast and bright colors, plus I've always been drawn to catholic imagery. I was raised Jewish, but my father was Catholic, and my husband is Hindu.
