New Orleans Street Scene II

New Orleans Street Scene II
8"x10"
Acrylic on Panel

Here is my second New Orleans street scene! I actually started this one before the painting posted below, but got stuck and put it aside. When I came back to it, I really got lost in it, especially when I worked on building up the bright reds, etc. I prefer to paint and draw from life, but it isn't always possible to finish a painting that way. Some of this is based on my imagination, some from my memory, some from life, and some from a photo I took as a reference.

New Orleans Street Scene

New Orleans Street Scene
7&1/2"x15"
Acrylic on panel

I love the atmosphere in New Orleans and wanted to capture the vivid colors I saw at night. I also played around with loosening up the drawing and focusing on the sharp contrast of lights and darks.  I had a lot of fun painting this and want to do more New Orleans street scenes.

Marina Beach

                                              Marina Beach
8x10
Acrylic on Panel

This painting was inspired by an auto rickshaw drive through Marina Beach in Chennai, India. Cows roam freely on the beach and on the roads. We came across this concession stand that appeared to be glowing. Part of the auto rickshaw is shown in the left hand corner.

Jersey Arcade

Jersey Arcade
9"x7"

Here is the Arcade painting finished. I included two process shots below. I really enjoyed making this painting. I was working on a much larger fair piece and was feeling a bit stuck..needed to loosen up and do something different..take a break. Coming back to the larger painting now, it's fresher..lots of problems I can resolve that I never saw before.

Jersey Arcade Process Shot

Jersey Arcade Process Shot
9"x7"

Here is a process shot of the Jersey Shore...Had so much fun there...really enjoying this painting. My favorite part so far are the lights in the arcade sign..feel like they're starting to glow and bring the whole piece together.

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

This is the first in a series of studies from the fair that Clint and I went to in Port Saint Lucie recently. It was fantastic! Among the attractions, half woman, half snake, smallest woman in the world, and a haunted mansion..lots of fun. I've always loved fairs and carnivals...although there is an element of fun and innocence, there is also a darkness that draws me in...

Hats

"Hats"
7 x 9
Acrylic on panel
This is a piece based off of the interior of Fan and Stoves, an antique store in Jacksonville, FL. I played with the colors, lines, and arrangement of objects. I also added the little house painting on the blue brick wall by Mary Blair. I love her work.

Fellini B & B

Fellini B&B
   18"x24"  Acrylic on canvas

This is a painting from a series inspired by a trip I took to Italy several years ago to study art with Louise Freshman Brown. I'll probably go back and forth between my current work and older pieces.
