I found these cute baby eggplants at my favorite out door farmers market and knew I had to make a painting(they can be tricky to find).  I love the shape of the stems and all of the markings on the bodies.

Green Apple and Black Grapes

Green Apple and Black Grapes
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

People seem to love the apple paintings, so I decided to switch it up a bit with the color scheme. This is the first time I've ever painted a green apple and black grapes which was surprisingly difficult, but I'm happy with the end result!

Three Pears

Three
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

New pear painting...I love the way the three pears look together...the colors and shapes...they remind me of Christmas ornaments. I really tried to make this painting a study of pears and paint them to the best of my ability...to tackle small things that I may have simplified in the past.

Red Pepper

"Red Pepper"6x6 Acrylic on panel
New painting up for auction...when I go to the grocery store, antique store...or any where to pick out something to paint for a still life, I try to find something interesting about the piece of produce or object..something that makes it fun to paint...I picked out two peppers at the store but this guy ended up being the star of the show.

Red Apple and Grapes

Red Apple and Grapes
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

I wanted to try painting an apple I have never painted before. It was tricky making it look round with the large yellow spot on the front, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. All of the bloom on the grapes and the curly stems were fun to paint!

Perfume Bottle And Cherries

Perfume Bottle And Cherries
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

Someone gave me this beautiful perfume bottle, and when I found cherries at the grocery store I knew I needed to make a painting! I tried many different colors for the background...I even pulled out a swatch book to get a feel for what I wanted. I've never painted a gold background before, but I think it works well with the red, purples, and blues.

Burn

Burn
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

When I started this still life I knew I wanted to get back to experimenting with patterns in my backgrounds. I started with the background and built the rest of the still life around it. It's very loud and bold, which I like. Plums have quickly become one of my favorite still life subjects.  I'm happy with the strong contrast of the plums against the background. It's always fun to try something new!

Persimmons

Persimmons
6"x8"
Acrylic on panel

I never see this type of persimmon in the grocery store (I believe these are Asian persimmons). They have a botanical name which means "food of the gods." I had so much fun painting these, although I admit I've never tasted a persimmon. I felt they lent themselves to a dark, rich background.

Carousel painting in progress

Lake George Village Carousel
8"x10"
Acrylic on panel

I decided to post some progress photos of a painting I started a year ago when I was living in NY. It has a long way to go. I keep coming back to it in between paintings. Clint and I were living and working in a gallery in Bolton Landing. Lake George Village was only a few minutes away. I love that area! It's a cute little town on the water. This is a carousel we used to walk by all of the time. I'm excited about this piece and I'm looking forward to finishing it!

I was running some errands the other day and decided to go into a cute little market I used to frequent as a kid. It was still there and I really liked the produce. I decided to buy these onions and radishes...Love the color combination! I sold the first one right away so I decided to do one more!

Apple Banana Commission

Apple Banana Commission
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

This is another still life commission! The client wanted a small bunch of bananas that would fit on a 6"x6" panel. My first thought was apple bananas. I love the way they taste! I was in Jacksonville and had some trouble finding them, but whole foods got a shipment in. It was tricky making something yellow turn. I had fun with the spots and markings. It's the first time I've ever painted apple bananas, but will definitely try it again in the future.

Recent Gallery Sale

  Apple and Cinnamon Stick

Acrylic on panel

Hi everyone! I just sold this apple painting out of Geren Gallery in Arizona! I played around with the background a bit more on these(the grapefruit painting is also in the gallery right now)...I like the idea of using patterns and colors...I've often incorporated that element into my larger paintings,  but enjoy doing it with these smaller still lifes.

Two Peaches

Lemon and Lime
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

A client purchased Apple and Orange Cherries and then commissioned me to make three more paintings! The plum painting was based on another I had sold. I always have fun with the deep purples, reds, and reflective light. Two Peaches was a challenge because I had never painted them before, so I decided to paint donut peaches and regular peaches to give him a choice. I had never painted a whole lemon either. It's very difficult to make something yellow round, but I'm happy with the way it turned out!

I Enjoy Being a Girl #3

I Enjoy Being a Girl #3
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

This is the second perfume bottle I painted recently, but the third in a series of paintings that I think make simple statements about being female. Most of the time I am interested in the color combinations and so I thought the perfume bottle would look really pretty with the cherries.
One of my favorite areas of the painting is the shadows that the cherries are casting on the background.

King Trumpet and White Button Mushrooms

King Trumpet and White Button Mushrooms
6"x6"
Acrylic on panel

SOLD

Mushrooms are tricky to paint because they rot so fast! I've never painted king trumpet mushrooms before...Clint brought these back from a Korean market in New Jersey. He had a bunch of them packed up in a cooler, but when he came to pick me up in Jacksonville, with the rush of packing to go back to Jensen beach, we forgot the mushrooms! Luckily, because the king trumpets were packaged in sealed plastic bags and were unopened we were able to come back a week later and use them to make some paintings! The tops of the larger two were falling apart, so I had to tape some of the mushroom together(tried gluing it and that didn't work!). I had fun creating this painting...I like the way the King Trumpets are leaning into each other. I added a couple of process photos...thought the initial drawing came out well.

Coconut and Lime Commisiion

Coconut and Lime Commission
8x10
Acrylic on panel

I recently finished this commission. The client bought a total of five paintings!
This is the third coconut and lime painting I've done...It's wonderful when I'm painting and I feel like things are going smoothly. I had a lot of fun painting this coconut. It's the first time I cracked one open on my own. I bought two...the first one was rotten, but this half had a lot of neat looking ridges.
